PICK MY BRAINS
Sound gross, right? Sorry. What I really mean is here you’ll find everything I’ve written about planning your wedding including tips, blog posts, advise & recommendations. Some of this (and more!) has all been made into a snazzy wedding booklet for those of you that prefer the analogue way (like me!) If you’d like one just drop me an email and I can pop one in the snail mail post for you to read over a cuppa or a gin.
All about micro-weddings, how to plan then, and advice from couples who’ve pivoted their wedding plans!
Blog post all about unique ideas to help plan your festival wedding including caterers, outfits, venues and extras!
All about planning a unique & personal wedding ceremony that represents you both and incorporates individuality to your wedding day!
It’s really interesting to be writing this in 2020 because whilst researching I found a post I had written when I was starting out 6 years ago (!) about the same topic; wedding photography pricing, and people’s expectations compared to what they were willing to pay.
I have a spoken a little bit about styles of photography in my wedding planning blog posts before, what to consider when you are choosing a wedding photographer as there are many different styles out there.
The topic on the blog today is something that’s been bugging me all summer long. I’ve written about the positives on unplugged weddings before and I am so happy that they’ve had a huge upturn this year with lots of my couples having one – and even making cool signs to say so!
After working in the wedding industry for nearly 5 years it regularly aggravates me how much bullshit there is that’s angled to make the bride feel like she is not enough as she is, and how now she is a ‘bride’ there is even more of an expectation (and let’s be frank, normal every day life is just enough) to look million dollar perfect. And by that I mean like the size 0 air brushed models plastered on the front of the magazines. There’s lists about body scrubs and facials and pedicures and tanning and diet plans – the list goes on. You might think the one day of your life you are marrying someone you adore and who adores you, you might be free from that kind of pressure but in fact it is just multiplied.
“Today, Andy and I celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. Looking back, we had such a wonderful day surrounded by our friends and family and the photos that you took really captured the joy we (and, hopefully, our guests) felt that day.
Sadly my mum passed away very suddenly in March 2018. She always reminisced about how much she enjoyed our wedding day and I really cherish a particular photo that you took of the two of us (above). Throughout the day, you managed to capture the sheer delight she felt and the fun she had, particularly on the dance floor! Ironically, we asked you to focus on taking some photos of my nan and, at 92, she is still going strong!
“On a happier note we absolutely love the photos and the video. As you know we avoided looking at the photos & video whilst on our honeymoon but when my gran went in to hospital, I sent it over so that she could be shown it. You actually capture a bittersweet moment of her telling me that she had been so worried that she wouldn't make the wedding and that she was so glad she had. So thank you.”
It’s been wonderful to see that my couples love the photos as much as I do and also that as well as a valuable experience and investment in their photos on the day they have so many to share with friends and family too.
I talk more about this over on my Snap & Chat blog post but it’s always such a useful things to do to help the day run smoothly and build the trust in me as a photographer. And don’t worry - 90% of my couples feel super apprehensive before hand… but I always get the loveliest emails afterwards!
A guide to planning a winter wedding!
So after a chilly winter I thought it was the perfect time to write a guide helping couples plan a winter wedding. There's a few things to consider when planning a wedding between Nov-Feb that don't apply when planning a summer weddings, especially from a photographic perspective and I wanted to write a bit about how to get the most out of your wedding day. All photos from Ross & Tara's December wedding.
Everything about how I shoot a wedding day right from the night before prep to what happens after I leave your venue!
I thoroughly enjoyed putting together my wedding planning guide earlier this year but one thing I think I missed out was about the formal family shots you get at weddings. As I market myself mostly as a documentary wedding photographer I nearly always get people asking me if they can still have a few of the more posed family shots. And the answer is yes!
Wedding Planning Guide by Shropshire Wedding Photographer Florence Fox
So if you follow me over on Instagram, Facebook or read my blog you'll know earlier this year I put together a 12 part guide all about planning your wedding - using lots of things I've learnt from doing it myself last year and from working in the industry too.
I really enjoying pulling everything together and it didn't feel right just having it online when I love tangible planning things so much so I hired a designer and got it all put together in one snazzy booklet.
A post all about my SNAP & CHAT engagement shoots - a getting to know each other meeting involving my camera & lots of laughing.
So, here is the final instalment of my (what has turned into!) 12 part wedding planning advice series. I've worked really hard in pulling together all the information, hints and tips I've learnt planning my own wedding and working at so many so fingers crossed you've seen some useful info.
ADVICE FOR THE WEDDING DAY
So, in previous posts I've been covering all sorts from picking the bridal party to choosing the venue to engagement shoots. Today it's about the actual wedding day itself. These are tips that I learnt myself on my wedding day, and they've also come from my past couples.
"The engagement shoot really helped put us at ease about our wedding photos! We thought we would be quite nervous in front of the camera, but now that we've had a practice run and know how relaxed you keep things, we're not worried at all. On top of that, it was a really fun afternoon and we now have some really great photos as a couple to show for it!" John & Jas, May 2015
Lots of ways for you to think about how to make your wedding more environmentally friendly - from choosing local suppliers to buying second hand.
