Sunday Musings #3
Today marks the last weekend off I have until November as I am shooting lovely weddings every Saturday until then! That meant I took full advantage and speak most of the time drinking and eating :) I'm pretty ready for the next few months, there's a whole mixed bag and I'm very excited to work with some great couples. In October I'm headed to Welcome Home workshop by Emma Case which I know is going to do beautiful things for my business.
(Note our super cool Matilda print in the background and THE best steak ever)
I woke up this morning and went for a little run (emphasis on little, and by run I mean jog) with future in-laws before coming back for a ginormously wonderful cooked breakfast. So here I am feeling full, and content, getting on with my 2016 Financial Forecasts (I know how to rock out on a Sunday).
Here's a little round up of what's been tickling my pickle this week..
1. Watch - Wadjda
I watched this brilliant film earlier this week and it's one of the more interesting films I've seen in a while. I really enjoy watching films that give an insight into a different culture or country I don't know much about, even if it doesn't necessarily sit comfortably with my beliefs about the world. It's set in Saudi Arabia and follows a young girl, Wadjda, as she experiences the pressure and expectation of what it is to be a woman in her society. FYI it got 99% on Rotten Tomatoes too (the film bible). Watch the trailer here.
2. Listen to - Frances - Grow
I discovered Frances through Radio 1 Live Lounge month and have just booked (free!) tickets to see her on her tour next month. I'm an absolute sucker for piano playing and a gorgeous voice and I love this track.
3. Buy - The Vintage Binding Co
As most of you know I also run The Vintage Binding Co, a book binding business that uses old, vintage books and creates usable notebooks and unique guestbooks. It's been quietly ticking over through the summer as I've been busy shooting and away, but I'm trying to find the time to build up a big stock before the Christmas period. Last year I totally sold out before Christmas and I'm feeling determined not to let that happen this year! Go and have a look at my current stock, and get 15% off till 31st October with AUTUMNBOOKS discount code! If you're getting married take a look at my guest books, they are such a personal and lasting thing to have at your wedding.
4. Read: 'It's Okay to not be Okay' by Rosalind Jana (actually her whole blog is great)
My lifelong friend Roz is a bloody wonderful writer, photographer, author, model blogger and all round good egg and she wrote this piece of NUS. I think it's brilliantly written and very good for someone who has just embarked on freshers week, or have friends who are doing so. I remember feeling so much of what she wrote about when I went to uni.
5. Look at: The bride who took her own wedding photographs
I've seen this reposted on a few sites now but I think it's pretty special. A photographer bride decided to unusually nt get a great photographer in, but take her photos herself. Personally I couldn't imagine doing this but there is something beautiful about seeing it be done from a first person perspective. And in some ways this means she'll have a bigger connection to the images when she looks back in year to come.
6. Play: Guardian World Map game
Another geeky past time favourite of mine! My knowledge of geography is laughably abysmal, not only in the UK but all over. My brilliant friend Emma showed me this and I'm pretty hooked, especially as there's a competitive element (albeit against your self) for the top score.
7. Read: Inspiring Books for photographers
Good list of reading books to kick start your brain thinking put together by Photography Concentrate. I'm off to purcahse the Annie Leibovitz one as soon as I finish my current book....
Photography wise this week I did a rainy couples shoot in Salisbury, and finished editing some film I've been working on. I really want to incorporate film highlights into my packages next year as I've fallen a bit in love with it. I have a ton of stuff to learn so for now it's more playing around but take a peek at what Vic & Ian's big day looked like in August..
